Gannu Ji’s Mischievous Ways

Gauri’s son is very playful,
Always holding on to Mother’s saree.
He keeps troubling everyone,
And drives them crazy with his pranks.

He secretly eats the laddoos
That have been offered to him.
When Mother opens her eyes,
She finds the offering plate empty.

Taking Father’s damaru,
He runs away with his companions.
Playing it—dam, dam, dam—
They dance and play together.

Mother Gauri, the Mother of the Universe,
Serves everyone according to their needs.
Milk for Kartik, laddoos for Ganesha,
And a little grain for the peacock and mouse.

Lambodar, Gajavadan, Vinayak—
He enjoys his offering of laddoos.
Secretly stretching out his trunk,
He drinks Kartik’s milk as well.

Seeing all this,
Father and Mother rejoice every day.
They say, “Our hearts do not feel at home
Without this mischievous Gannu.”

The darling of the Shiva family,
The immensely powerful Lord,
Remover of obstacles, savior of all—
Who can rescue us without You?

You come on the fourth day of Bhadrapada,
Blessing us with strength, knowledge, and wisdom.
You grant honor, prestige, wealth, and prosperity,
And bestow every kind of abundance.

Come again this year, O Lord,
Make us all feel protected by You.
Fill our homes with happiness,
And never leave our side.
