Trust

July 19

Whom should we trust, O Lord?
None seem worthy anymore.
What strange age of Kali is this,
Nothing is certain as before.

A world of those who deceive,
Filled with cunning and disguise;
Consumed by envy, greed, and lust,
Falsehood everywhere resides.

Cruelty, theft, and treachery
Shatter the bonds of trust;
Love, goodwill, and faith alone
Can keep those bonds robust.

As if poison has fallen into a well,
Ethics, values, and noble ways decay;
Relationships are falling apart—
Where have harmony and affection gone away?

Father and son, mother and father,
Wife, beloved, friend, and kin—
None seem worthy of complete trust;
Life has grown so strange within.

Husbands betray their wives,
Wives betray their husbands too;
Relationships have turned so blurred,
Trust finds no roots to grow.

“This is mine, the world is mine,”
The ego proudly makes its claim;
“I shall carry all my wealth above,”
Yet nothing leaves with anyone.

The nation moves by Rama’s grace;
The world has no one in command.
All creation dances endlessly,
To the rhythm of the Divine’s hand.

On Lord Rama’s trust the world survives—
Compassion, righteousness, and truth remain.
Whatever happens is by Lord Rama’s will;
Even what does not happen belongs to Him the same.
