Emotions rise and fall with time,
As do the prices of worldly things.
When power comes into one’s hands,
A person’s importance often takes wing.
One meaning of bhāva is value or price,
Another is greatness of heart and mind.
Both are in constant motion today—
How then can lasting peace we find?
Beyond mere value, bhāva bears
Many shades and meanings untold.
Sensitive souls are immersed in feeling,
While the strong hold emotions bold.
When someone attains a lofty post,
Their self-importance starts to grow.
Displaying status at every turn,
Their heart fills up with pride’s bright glow.
A mind immersed in true devotion
Sees the Divine in every face.
Even in wood and carved-out stone,
It finds God’s eternal grace.
A roadside leader, once made minister,
Soon changes in manner and style.
With pomp and grandeur all around,
They scarcely recognize you with a smile.
Market prices forever rise and fall;
The trading floors are never still.
The stock market storms and surges,
Creating chaos by its will.
A poem’s emotions are understood
Only when its hidden essence is found.
Its inner rasa, its secret soul,
Makes every heartfelt verse profound.
As the surroundings change with time,
So do the feelings in our hearts.
In the mind of one who lives by theft,
Devotion seldom plays its part.
The nine emotions dwell within,
Hidden deep in every soul.
When the moment is just right,
They emerge to play their role.
After retirement, many become
Like a bulb whose light has dimmed.
Officer or humble attendant alike,
Their former importance grows thin.
