Pride is a delusion of the mind,
Born of status, wealth, and fame;
It blinds the heart and clouds the soul,
With anger and arrogance it inflames.
Pride gave birth to the Mahabharata’s war,
And Ravana fell because of the same;
Whoever embraced this fatal vice
Invited their own ruin and shame.
It sows discord between brothers,
Builds walls within the family home;
Only after falling into misery
Does one awaken, stripped and alone.
It is a dark and wicked emotion,
Silently entering unaware;
Pure and noble feelings fade away,
As boiling anger fills the air.
Its victims cease to speak with kindness,
Hurting hearts wherever they tread;
Consumed by feelings of superiority,
They treat all others with disdain instead.
As riches and luxury steadily grow,
So too does pride rise high;
The virtues that once brought peace
Slowly vanish and quietly die.
Lost within self-importance,
One forgets the respect once earned;
“Why should I be less than anyone?”
The swollen ego endlessly returns.
It delights in causing others pain,
Humiliating them at every chance;
Deep within, wounded hearts cry out,
Giving birth to thoughts of revenge.
Pride destroys all that is precious,
Feeding anger, ego, and display;
It shatters life’s simple beauty
And turns it all to dust one day.
