The Goal of Life

We came with nothing in our hands,
And empty-handed we must go;
This is the lesson the Gita teaches—
The truth of life we ought to know.

Yet let our goal be great and noble,
Adorned with deeds that are good and pure;
Walking ever on the righteous path,
Let us seek a goal that shall endure.

To reach the heights of lofty goals,
Courage and dedication must be there;
With honesty and honest effort,
We must move ahead with steadfast care.

What do we wish to become in life?
What shall we finally be?
The answer rests upon time and chance—
And what we make of opportunity.

Let our goal be high as the Himalayas,
Strong, majestic, vast and grand;
With vision far and firm determination,
We can achieve what we have planned.

Lofty aspirations, lofty dreams,
Gradually turn into reality;
Those who dare to think beyond the ordinary
Find their destination eventually.

If our goal is not great and lofty,
How shall we ever move ahead?
The farther we dare to dream and think,
The farther our journey shall be led.

Life and death are part of existence,
Yet life must have a purpose grand;
We should leave something good for society—
And firmly by this vow we stand.

Where people cherish lofty goals,
Decline can never find its way;
Society keeps rising higher and higher,
And progress reaches its summit one day.
