Munnar

August 6

Away from the dazzling glare of material life,
In this pristine and peaceful place,
I found, within this very lifetime,
A chance to behold Nature’s grace.

So many flowers I saw there,
Whose names were quite unknown;
Whatever anyone told us about them,
We simply accepted as truth alone.

The landscape was immensely enchanting,
Nature’s treasures scattered everywhere—
Clove, cardamom, cinnamon fragrant,
Pepper, mace, and nutmeg hanging there.

Tea leaves and coffee beans too
Grew upon the mountain slopes;
Lush green carpets stretched around,
On terraced fields that seemed without end.

In Kerala’s Idukki district
Lies the beautiful hill station, Munnar;
Cloud-covered hills rise majestically,
While crystal streams gush and shimmer.

Dense forests of Shola green,
And countless verdant hills abound;
Eravikulam National Park stands there,
With three streams flowing around.

The blue blossoms of Neelakurinji
Burst into bloom once every twelve years;
With their deep blue radiance,
They double the beauty of these hills.

Early each morning, watching sunrise
From the rooftop of the resort,
Clouds kept drifting, time and again,
Across the crimson sun’s golden court.

From between the mountain peaks
The sun peeped out and scattered rays;
Clouds, hills, sunshine, and the breeze
Filled my heart with wondrous grace.

Our country’s Nature stands adorned
With flowers and leaves of every hue,
With countless spices, herbs, and plants,
And gifts that serve and nourish too.
