August 8
“How are you?”
“I’m fine, more or less.”
“Any new news?”
“No, nothing much.”
“Why did you call me now?
We hardly ever get to talk.
I feel restless sitting alone,
My thoughts keep wandering away.
So I thought I’d remind you
That we too are a part of your life.”
“What nonsense are you talking?
Don’t you understand my helplessness?
Caught in one problem, then another,
I keep struggling all the time.
Can’t you see?”
“I see it, and I understand it too.
That is why I’m afraid to call.
But when too many days pass,
Even my patience begins to fade.”
“This is the other end of life,
Perhaps the hardest phase of all.
So many people are drifting away,
And tender bonds of affection are breaking.”
“This feeling leaves me disturbed;
My inner self lies shattered like glass.
Who knows what colour life will wear?
Each new day seems dull and colourless.”
“Leave that aside—tell me about yourself.
If you have no time, we can talk later.
May God untangle all your troubles,
And spare your loved ones the burden of worry.”
“I am the one who keeps worrying for no reason.
The whole day passes in this anxiety—
Sometimes I call you, sometimes someone else,
And trouble everyone with my concern.”
“I’ll talk to you when I find some time.
I’ll make up for all your complaints.
Just take care of yourself—
Don’t die before I come back.”
Such a little expression of love
Brings such immense happiness.
A son worrying about his mother’s death—
How much tenderness lies in those words!
“How busy can he really be?
How much can he possibly talk?
Will he not even be able to focus on his work?”
Yet her heart fills with joy,
And countless blessings rise to her lips:
“May you be blessed with endless wealth and prosperity,
May you earn boundless fame and glory.
May happiness always follow your path,
And may God keep you safe and blessed.”
