The Swati Nakshatra
By Vidya
Auspicious, joyful, beautiful, and tender,
Swati brings the white blooms of kans grass,
With harvest-laden branches,
And nature dressed in a silvery hue.
To gather the gifts of the Hathiya rains,
And bring the harvest home,
Swati arrives once again,
When the crops are ready to be gathered.
No more do we need the rains,
Nor mud, slush, or pools of water;
Now cutting, bundling, and carrying the crops
Will be easier for us all.
A constellation of auspicious signs,
Swati brings blessings everywhere;
It fills every home with ease
With grains and wealth in abundance.
The thirsty Chatak bird, the banana plant,
And the oyster, too, are satisfied;
Each receives, according to its nature,
The cherished reward for which it yearns.
A silvery whiteness spreads
Across the earth in every direction;
Nature herself sits here,
Freshly bathed and radiant.
The rain-soaked earth now dries,
Rejoicing in the gentle warmth;
Beneath the sun’s golden rays,
She sways with pride and delight.
Behold the beauty of abundance,
The granaries overflowing with wealth;
Behold healthy, strong offspring,
Born of dedication and tireless toil.
Humanity offers good wishes
And blessings to this auspicious star;
For every time Swati returns,
She brings the earth to fulfilment.
